Light, powerful, and everything I’ve always wanted out of a fly rod!
Available now at the Silver Bow! 9' 4wt, 9' 5wt, 9' 6wt in-stock.
The Thomas & Thomas Avantt II is probably the nicest fly rod I’ve every cast / fish. What does that even mean? Nicest? Well, of course that is subjective, but this what I like about this particular rod series...
1 - The feel. These rods are very light swing weight and yet, they pack a punch. I’d rate them fast, but not crazy fast. You can cast up-close with the tip and then you can bomb it out with ease without a dramatic change in your casting style. They are crisp, super accurate, and can carry a tight loop at long range. Want to mend your line? The Avantt II has zero issues lifting and manipulating the fly line with it’s backbone.
2 - I dig the vibe of the rod components and finish, old school but with a modern look and grip. Plus the fact they are made in the US.
3 - I do both wade fish and boat fish. Often times I feel a rod is better suited for one or the other, ie Winston rods for example… I’ve always felt with the softer feel they make better wade sticks than boat rods (at least for trout fishing). The Avantt II is a grab-and-go rod, I have no complaints whether I’ve been in the boat or on the shore.
Add up 1, 2, and 3 and you pretty much get the idea of what I consider a nice fly rod! $1045 retail.
