The Fishing
The Spokane River is a great option all summer long. Right now the best times of the day are morning and evening with the warmer temps. Caddis hatches have had fish focused on caddis pupa for your nymph or dropper rigs. Fishing caddis adults or big chubbies in the evenings can get fish on the surface, we will fish them during the day too and can get the random fish on the surface with 'em. Swinging soft hackles is a fun way to fish the river too. If you are running a big dry like a chubby definitely run a dropper pattern. Riffles and faster water will overall be more productive right now.

The Fishing
The North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River still is a decent option. While it's not in it's peak fishing form anymore it is still fishing well. The water is low for this time of the year so finding a spot is not a problem. Fishing a dry like a small chubby or stone with a dropper (caddis pupa, small perdigon, spanish bullet, etc) is a good way to prospect especially in the morning hours. Mid day hatches of caddis and golden stones will definitely have fish looking up. PMD's and yellow sallies are still around too. Get on it before it gets choked up with inner tubers for the summer!

This is pretty much a repeat of last week right now... the St. Joe River was, is, and will be a great option from here on out. Wade anglers rejoice as the levels are getting to be more conducive to finding productive water. Dry / droppers like a chubby or stone with a caddis pupa or perdigon type are the best prospecting tactics through most of the day. Golden stones, caddis, pmds, and yellow sallies are all on the menu depending on the stretch. Might see a random drake still too. Good reports river wide, get after it.

The Fishing
Hot week for lake fishing, no reports locally. Fishing deeper and fighting / releasing fish will be important. Fishing lakes higher in elevation that are cooler are a better choice.

The Fishing
Want to try something different? Smallmouth fishing on the Lower Grand Ronde is exceptional this month. Smolt colored streamers, craw patterns, sparkle minnows, really whatever you want to throw will work. I always make a point of getting down here at least once in May, it’s not uncommon to have a triple digit day of smallie fishing when conditions are prime.
