  • The Fishing

With the heatwave the Spokane River has been an early and late fishery. Mid day will be slower. Focusing on riffle water and the well oxygenated currents can be of help. Chubbies with droppers of course getin'er done. Droppers and nymph rigs with a caddis pupa, rubber legs, or attractor kinda nymphs like a jig prince all good choices. Some caddis fishing later in the evening, nothing crazy though. Thanks to the aquifer the Spokane will be a good choice all summer long. Look for inner tubers to be out during the hot days.

  • The Fishing

Fly fishing on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene has been okay, nothing spectacular which can happen this time of the year as we roll into July. The heatwave means mornings will be best and inner tubers will be out in force during the warmest times of the day. Always a good idea to check temps in the afternoons and evenings (the actual hottest time of the day for water temps), when water is 68+ give 'em a break. Small chubbies with droppers (lightning bugs, perdigons, caddis pupa, etc) are good "probing" choices. Hoppers are going to start to become more of thing over the next few weeks, ants and beetles definitely yes. Caddis yes all summer, small attractors like a PMX also good ideas. Small parachutes for picky fish. Crane flies can do well skate too during the summer for something different. Definitely lengthen out your leader and drop a tippet size to help improve your odds.

  • The Fishing

The St. Joe River is always a go-to right now. Fishing a golden, chubby, or another foam type of bug like a water walker with a dropper nymph is a good searching tactic. Fishing the standard road side pool can be slow as we get into the summer heat and angling pressure continues. Try walking the riprap banks in search of lesser fished runs between the pools. Ants and beetles yes, hoppers soon, well really the fish will probably eat a hopper right now, they usually do this time of the year. Small pmds and caddis for pickier fish. Crane flies can do well skate too during the summer for something different. The river is fishing well.

  • The Fishing

The North Fork of the Clearwater and Kelly Creek are fishing well. Our guide Jesse Retan was down there this week for a couple days and said it was great. Goldens, pmd's, drakes, and caddis, lots of bugs he reported. The Henry's Fork Golden really did well. Run a dropper if you want to rack up more numbers.

  • The Fishing

Want to try something different? Smallmouth fishing on the Lower Grand Ronde is exceptional this month. Smolt colored streamers, craw patterns, sparkle minnows, really whatever you want to throw will work. I always make a point of getting down here at least once in May, it’s not uncommon to have a triple digit day of smallie fishing when conditions are prime.
