The Fishing
The Spokane River continues to be a good option. Our guide crew has had some great outings this past week. A little earlier start with the heat helped and now that the weather is cooling down it should keep things plugging along. The usual dry / dropper game with chubbies and caddis pupa are a go-to, you can mix up the dropper and try patterns like jig twenty inchers or jig princes, but caddis are on the menu all summer long. Some dry fly eats mid-day on the chubbies, the best dry fly window is generally right before dark. Swinging soft hackles can be productive especially with low light in the late evening if fish are feeding on emerging caddis. Streamer fishing has continued to be decent too. The levels are great, it's prime time on the Spokane!

The Fishing
As we enter mid June the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River continues to be a good option. I (Sean - Kenyon is out guiding this week so I'm back at the reports) was out earlier this week and it was decent to good fishing. We are in what I would call the "peak" of the main season on the North Fork, even kinda coming out of it really. Hatches can vary from stretch-to-stretch but overall caddis and golden stones are the choice bugs. Mornings can consist of running dry/droppers with more fish eating the dropper (caddis pupa or perdigon kinda patterns) and as the day warms up running just a single dry has been great. You can even see some pmd's, yellow sallies, and drakes so don't forget to pack those with you. The river is low-ish for June so no problems fishing anywhere you want.

The St. Joe River was, is, and will be a great option from here on out. Wade anglers rejoice as the levels are getting to be more conducive to finding productive water. Dry / droppers are the best prospecting tactics through most of the day. Stoneflies, drakes, pmd's, yellow sallies, and caddis are all on the menu depending on the stretch. Good reports river wide, it's GO time!

Hot week for lake fishing, no reports locally. Fishing deeper and fighting / releasing fish will be important.

The Fishing
Want to try something different? Smallmouth fishing on the Lower Grand Ronde is exceptional this month. Smolt colored streamers, craw patterns, sparkle minnows, really whatever you want to throw will work. I always make a point of getting down here at least once in May, it’s not uncommon to have a triple digit day of smallie fishing when conditions are prime.
