  • The Fishing

Flows are stable and fishing has been very consistent on the North Fork. We will see what river levels do over the next few days; the flow forecast has the river jumping up this weekend. Warmer air temps would be the main reason for the potential increase. Keep an eye on the gauges for sure, but I’d still be heading up here this weekend unless there is a major blowout. Hatches have been great lately, Skwalas and March Browns still around, with some early Salmonflies and Gray Drakes making an appearance this week. Keep in mind, bug hatches are going to be best the further downriver you are. Higher up in the drainage has colder air and water temps, leading to shorter hatch windows and less bug activity. Dry fly fishing has been best from mid-day to late afternoon. Mornings are still dominated by the subsurface game. Heavy stones, squirmies and attractor nymphs will get the job done under a bobber. Try some sculpin patterns or flashy streamers for a tight line grab.

  • The Fishing

Bo was able to get out on the St. Joe River this last weekend for a float. Yes the flows are going up, but the river is still very fishable and fishing was good for him and new team member Sean Wonders. Bo reported good streamer fishing and after watching a fish eat a large salmonfly they switched over to big bugs and continued to catch fish on dries. A good March brown hatch also had fish up mid-day. The fishing is still hanging in there, get on it while you can!

  • The Fishing

This Saturday (4/26) is the general lake opener for WA. This gives anglers even more stillwater opportunities around the region. Some local favorites that open Saturday include: West Medical Lake, Clear Lake, Badger Lake, and Williams Lake. There are literally dozens of other lakes around Spokane that also fish very well over the next couple months, don’t be afraid to explore some of the lesser-known ones this Spring. Leeches, chironomids, callibaetis, damsels, water boatmen, daphnia (blobs) have all been finding fish lately. If you’re interested in warmwater species, bass and carp have been waking up and fishing has been stellar for these guys lately. This will only get better as temps warm and they continue to push up into the shallows.
