  • The Fishing

The Spokane River is fishing well right now and will continue until pretty much the snow flies. Flows have slowly creeped up a tiny bit so that has helped. Combine that with cooler weather and longer nights makes for good fishing conditions. There has been some bwo activity and you could possibly see fall caddis and October caddis. Colors along the river are just starting to turn a little. As usual a chubby and dropper are working well. Euro or bobber rigs work 100% of the time, streamer fishing and soft hackles are producing. Great time to be out.

  • The Fishing

Fall is starting on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River. Flows are the usual low-fall levels but that's normal for this time of the year. Just need to find the pools and you will find fish. Pack some October caddis for the afternoons, caddis, bwo's, and terrestrials should round out the hatches. Terrestrials will shut off once we get a couple hard frost. Mahoganies are on the radar too. A dropper under a hopper or October caddis is a good prospecting tactic.

  • The Fishing

Good fall fishing continues on the St. Joe River this week. The weekend is looking like a great option too. The afternoons are definitely good October caddis fishing. You can still fish terrestrials though and definitely pack some bwo's and Mahogany duns. A hopper / dropper or October caddis with a dropper is a good prospecting choice. Streamer fishing has also been picking up.

  • The Fishing

Great fishing on the North Fork of the Clearwater / Kelly Creek. October caddis have been the main bug, but Mahogany duns, bwo's, and purple haze parachutes will round out the dry fly selection. A dropper like a frenchie, perdigon, tungsten whatever under your orange chubby or october caddis dry is a great prospecting tactic. Streamer fishing has been very good too.

  • Steelhead Rivers

  • The Fishing

The Clearwater River has been the best option lately, though it will be a busy one this weekend. The Snake and Grande should have a few fish trickling in and it's worth poking around that neck of the woods if you are steelhead curious. Of course your favorite traditional pattern on a dry line is a go-to method this time of the year... and for you non-traditional anglers (Silver Bow falls under this as well) we will always run a sink-tip and something like a hoh-bo pattern down a little deeper after fishing the dry line. And if you wanna get real dirty (and productive) take a census with a nymph rig... we love all tactics here at the shop and we love people that do too.
