  • The Fishing

I (Kenyon) fished the North Fork CDA on Tuesday (4/29) this week. Flows were sitting around 1800 CFS at Prichard and slightly rising. Clarity was fine but the higher water definitely limited things. I briefly checked out the Little NF CDA, the water was cranking here and needs a couple weeks before I’d consider this a viable option. I fished the main river from Kingston up to Prichard. Definitely more areas to fish closer to Kingston, pretty tough to find good water further upstream. There were good bug hatches throughout the day; March Browns and Salmonflies had the most attention from fish on the surface. I’d be bringing Grey Drakes and some Skwalas along still too. Dredging a nymph rig produced some fish in the morning, a heavy stone or jig streamer did the best for me.

  • The Fishing

Flows were on a steady rise this week but have since leveled off. Odds are they will continue to bump up over the next few days with warm temps and maybe some rain in the forecast. These current levels are still fishable, especially if you are floating. Wade spots will be limited the further upstream you go, but you can definitely find some good water downstream of Marble Creek. Hatches have been good; Salmonflies, Grey Drakes, March Browns and some Skwalas all have fish looking up. I’d be throwing a streamer rig in the morning before hatches get going, maybe mix in some nymphing as well.

  • The Fishing

We’ve heard some mixed reports from the general opener lakes this last week. Sounds like fishing was tough on Badger Lake, but some anglers did well on nearby Williams Lake. West Medical was okay for numbers but mostly small fish, which isn’t terribly surprising, since this lake was killed off at the end of last season to remove nuisance fish species. There are literally dozens of other lakes around Spokane that will fish well over the next couple months, don’t be afraid to explore some of the lesser-known ones this Spring. Bass and carp fishing has been really good for the warmwater fanatics out there. These guys are in full pre-spawn mode and are roaming the shallows looking to bulk up.
