Sunny and a Chance of Steel

Sean Visintainer - 11/13/18

Grande Ronde River Steelhead.

Warmer weather and warmer water temps

Sunny, warmer weather in the forecast should keep the steelheading down south swinging along. Last weekend's cold snap made for some brisk conditions everywhere around the region, but it didn't stop the steelhead catching reported Travis. In a brief text he said they picked up a few, but it was extremely frigid.

Travis has had some great success along with the other guides this season despite the low odds. Guided trips have been winding down as we approach the holidays, but for the hearty few that have been out they have been successful. Even some swing action still! Swinging will only be successful on sink-tips and bottom hugging patterns like egg sucking loop leeches, intruders, Bjorn's Tug Bug Tube, etc. Put the scandi's and traditionals away until next season!

Kenyon was also down this week with friend Jesse R. He and Jesse both picked up steelies nymphing and one on the swing using T-10 and Larimer's Reverse Marabou in purple. Kenyon also picked up two last week swinging with tips.

This week's forecast is looking to improve for some warmer conditions down on the Grande Ronde. Warmer air temps should bump the water temperature a little bit and hopefully get the steelies even more active. So the fishing forecast for this week... sunny and a chance of steelhead.
