Spokane River Redband Trout by Sean Visintainer

Stay cool, close to home

Summer heat keeping you down? Don't forget, our home river is one of the "coolest" around. While day time temps soar, the Spokane River keeps it's cool. We were out testing the new Sage X spey and switch rods yesterday during the mid day heat and not to our surprise were fortunate to watch half a dozen nice redbands cruising the shallows enjoying the comfortable temps while we sweated our asses off on dry land. The Spokane River gets "recharge" from the aquifer starting at Sullivan Bridge in the Valley. From there down it gains cool water from the ground which keeps water temps in the low 60's, a great temperature for wild trout.
